Results use ARK’s taming formula, assuming top-quality food and nobody hitting the sleeping creature. Hits, eating other food or a game patch can change the numbers slightly.
How taming works in ARK
- Knockout: you put the creature to sleep with tranquilizer weapons and feed it while it is unconscious. Most large creatures use this method.
- Passive: you approach with its favorite food on your hotbar and hand-feed it while it is awake, without scaring it.
- Special: some creatures are obtained from stolen eggs, bait, a host or other unique methods. Each guide explains it step by step.
Kibble is the most efficient taming food. Each creature prefers one tier (Basic, Simple, Regular, Superior, Exceptional or Extraordinary), and a higher tier works too. Taming quickly and without damage gives higher effectiveness, which turns into bonus levels when the tame finishes.

What is an ARK taming calculator?
It is a tool that uses the creature, its level, the food and the server taming rate to work out how much food you need, how long the tame takes and how many narcotics keep it asleep.
How do you tame faster in ARK Survival Ascended?
Use the creature’s preferred kibble, keep it from taking damage and play on a server with a high taming rate. On Tharyon taming runs at 8x, so a one-hour tame at 1x takes about 8 minutes.
Narcotics or Narcoberries?
Narcotics add much more torpor per unit and last longer, so you need fewer. Narcoberries are fine for small creatures or early on.
What is taming effectiveness?
It is the percentage that shows how well the tame is going. It drops if the creature takes damage or eats worse food, and at the end it becomes bonus levels: up to half of the creature’s level.
What does 8x taming mean?
Each piece of food gives eight times more affinity than on official servers, so you need eight times less food and the tame is much shorter.
