Quick answer: Adult Gigantoraptors cannot be tamed: what you tame is a baby from its nest. You distract the adult by throwing fertilized eggs, hide in the nest and copy the baby’s moves (spin, bow or flap) until it trusts you. It is not tamed with food or kibble.
Updated October 2026 for ARK: Survival Ascended (ASA).
The Gigantoraptor is a huge feathered dinosaur made for ARK Survival Ascended. It is more of a caretaker than a fighter: it feeds and looks after babies carried in its saddle, incubates eggs and can adopt orphaned wild babies. It is very useful for any tribe that breeds creatures.

How to tame a Gigantoraptor step by step
- Bring several fertilized eggs (bigger ones keep the adult busy longer) and, if you can, Ghillie Armor so it is slower to notice you.
- Find a nest with both the adult and a baby alive. Do not kill or trap the adult: if it cannot get back to the nest, the babies will not come to you.
- Throw an egg away from the nest: the adult goes to break it open. While it is busy, return to the nest; repeat with another egg when needed.
- Inside the nest press E to hide. The baby does a jump-flap and then one of three gestures.
- Copy the gesture within about 2 seconds: spin (A), bow (S) or flap (D). A match advances the tame; being slow lowers effectiveness a little and the wrong gesture lowers it a lot.
- Keep the area clear: if the adult turns on you, you get hit or you move too far away, progress resets.
Where to find the Gigantoraptor in ARK Ascended
On The Island it lives in lush forests, often near rivers, and shares spawn areas with the Therizinosaurus. What you are looking for is a nest with a living adult and at least one living baby; the adult guards the area and attacks anyone who gets too close.

Gigantoraptor abilities and uses
- Carries babies in its saddle and feeds them from its inventory while you ride it.
- Incubates one egg on each side of the saddle regardless of temperature, and they hatch already imprinted.
- Baby Call: marks nearby wild babies, and those you claim during that window get bonus levels.
- It can adopt orphaned wild babies and transfer their imprint to you.
- Glides through the air using stamina, which avoids fall damage.
Gigantoraptor variants
The Aberrant Gigantoraptor lives on Aberration. It looks the same apart from a glowing plumage, is tamed the same way and is immune to radiation.
Tips and mistakes to avoid
- If the parents die you can no longer tame their babies: protect the adult even if it gets in your way.
- If the egg you throw hatches, the adult attacks the newborn instead of staying put: use eggs that are not about to hatch.
- Once a day you can pluck a feather that improves the chance of offspring inheriting the better parental stat.
