The Deinotherium is a huge elephant relative with downward-curving tusks. It stomps hard, deals extra damage to carnivores and its rally calls buff allies, making it a strong combat mount. It is also the largest creature allowed into boss arenas.

How to tame a Deinotherium step by step
- Reach level 85 or higher: you cannot tame it before that.
- Put Beer Jars in the last slot of your hotbar and approach slowly.
- Watch its gestures. If it curls its trunk or pins its ears back, give it nothing: back away until it stops looking at you and try again.
- Wait for the three good gestures: head shaking, ear flapping and trunk swinging. After about 8 or 9 gestures it turns hostile anyway.
- With all three gestures and no bad signs, stand beneath its trunk: it will take the beer from your inventory.
- Move away right away, as it may turn aggressive for a moment. Wait about 30 seconds and repeat until done.
Where to find the Deinotherium in ARK Ascended
It arrived in ASA with update 63.7 (March 2025), coming from the ARK Additions mod, and it spawns on The Island, Scorched Earth, The Center, Extinction and Astraeos. It roams grasslands, riverbanks and some beaches. It is the largest land mammal in the game, so you can spot it from far away.

- A trunk swipe that partly ignores armor and harvests wood and corpses.
- Rally Call: males grant extra damage and stamina regeneration; females grant stacking damage resistance.

Tips and mistakes to avoid
- Bring plenty of Beer Jars: each attempt only gives it one and some attempts will fail.
- Keep a mount nearby in case it gets angry: it is huge and stomps very hard.
- A male cannot use its rally if another male is nearby; for group fights mix males and females.
